CETACEANS VS humans

Cetaceans are sociable and intelligent animals who are not considered a real threat to humans, as there is none documented case of a wild orca harming a human and just a few documented cases other of wild cetaceans attacking people and, although some of them are top predators, humans are not in their natural diet.

In captivity, due to psychological frustration of cetaceans and the stress involved in being deprived of everything that is natural to them, attacks on humans are surprisingly common.

Attack of orcas on humans:

  • 1960s: one incident

  • 1970s: 11 incidents

  • 1980s: 9 incidents

  • 1990s: 4 incidents

  • 2000s: 9 incidents

  • 2010s: 1 incidents (after this incident, trainers were not allowed to swim with orcas anymore)
